Pool Fence Safety

When it comes down to it, you can never be too careful when it comes to pool fence safety, after all you don’t want anyone to get hurt.

It’s important to make sure your pool fence is up to scratch at all times to ensure the most stringent of safety measures are being followed.

If you have any questions about your pool fencing and any safety issues keep reading below.

Legal requirements for Pool Fencing

When it comes to safety in and around your swimming pool, you must comply with the following:

  • Your pool fence must be at least 1200mm high.
  • The bottom of the pool fence and gate should be no more than 100mm off the ground.
  • Climbable objects are at least 900mmuntil below horizontal and then 1200mm from the fence on the outside such as barbecue’s, trees, rocks, shrubs, pot plants and furniture. The basic rule is that there can’t be anything that effectively reduces the height of the pool fence.
  • Climbable objects are not within 300mm of the pool fence on the inside, such as seating.
  • Gate is to open outwards, be self-closing and be able to self-latch.
  • CPR sign must be displayed– a pool builder normally supplies one of these as commonly part of the initial building package.
